Birds on the Wing is a 1971 BBC Two television comedy written by Peter Yeldham and produced by Graeme Muir, originally aired in a single series of six episodes. A businessman becomes enamoured of an attractive young woman, whom he finds out is trying to con him with her friend. The three form an unlikely alliance.

Four teens uncover a plot by a corrupt politician and her oilman sidekick to slaughter bald eagles to get at the oil beneath their nesting grounds. One teen, Will Ryburn, is the son of a powerful Senator and heir to an oil fortune. He and his friends must use all their bravery, wisdom, unique talents, and even a bit of eco-terrorism to save the birds, heal Will's relationship with his father, and maybe even change the future!

This exhilarating animation by Norman McLaren will leave you breathless, as a simple image of a stick figure posting a letter becomes a frenzy of split second images, as the characters morph from man to woman to apple to mouth to bee to butterfly to candle to... well, you'll lose count quickly enough. This animated advertisement for the GPO rewards - and necessitates - repeated viewings, and some of the imagery proved too Freudian for the Post Office, who banned the film. This short film follows McLaren's ethos that animation was not the art of drawings which move, but of movements which are drawn. The wonderful score by Jacques Ibert adds to the ecstatic effect.
